Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on Monday morning after severe thunderstorms impacted the region, generating wind gusts topping over 100 km/h.

Large Hailstones and Extensive Impact

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets reaching sizes of seven centimeters in some areas. Meteorological experts confirmed that different parts across the state had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were attempting to repair power throughout the impacted areas, with nearly 70 crews activated to handle the numerous electricity disruptions.

Victoria's Weather Woes

At the same time, nearly one thousand residents in Victoria also faced electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its most precipitation in over 500 days.

Emergency response teams received 598 emergency reports across the area, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

During the peak on the previous day, over twenty-eight thousand energy customers in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Humid circumstances were forecast to persist along much of the state's eastern regions this coming days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coast.

The following day was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across different parts of both regions.

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
